Heart to Heart Talk : Ways to Keep Your Heart Healthy




They say, a healthy heart is the the center of good health. This is why, embracing a healthy way of living is important at any age. Indeed, young or old, it is a must to take care of your heart. We must live a life that will help lower risks of heart disease and and prevent a heart attack.


It’s never too late to begin the switch from undesirable lifestyle habits to healthy ones. Reap the benefits of a healthy heart by doing the following:


  1. Keep an Active Lifestyle 


No need for fancy exercises or equipments to start being more active. The most important thing is to get up and move. Take time to do activities that will awaken your body. Take a walk around the block. Bike, swim, run or jog - any activity that will ensure that your heart can efficiently pump blood to deliver oxygen and important nutrients all over your body. 


  1. Make Healthy Eating a Habit 


You don’t need fancy diets or expensive menu to start eating healthy. Steer clear from heavily processed foods, foods that are high in cholesterol and fats. Low sodium food is also a good idea. Trade off your soda to water. The miracle drink. A healthy, balanced diet is a good choice too. Remember your go,grow, and glow chart! 


  1. Be Mindful of Your Weight


Be more conscious of your body mass index. The heavier you get, the higher it gets too. Your BMI is the indication of body fat based on your height and weight. This means that you are more at risk high blood pressure and blood sugar levels. As you begin to practice an active lifestyle by eating healthy and exercising, you should also monitor your weight to see your progress. 


  1. Chillax! 


Easier said than done especially if you live a highly stressful lifestyle. But then again, you should keep in mind that your stress levels can affect your heart health too. Do not take unhealthy shortcuts to battle your stressors. An active lifestyle and a positive mindset can help get rid of stress for a healthier heart.


  1. Listen to the experts


There are so many things that we still don’t know. There are many misconceptions that we still need to let go of. This is why it’s important to listen to experts who know just what to do when it comes to matters of the heart. 


Being armed with proper knowledge will not only help your transition from unhealthy to a healthy way of living but it can also save your life and the lives of your loved ones. 


Tune in to the Facebook Page of Philippine Heart Association. They hold live forums about heart health for every Juan. Recently, their Father’s Day Special : “Puso ni Dadi, Sinlakas Pa Ba ng Haligi” was held through Facebook Live. 


Heart experts like Dr. Jorge Sison, Dr. Benjamin Quito, Dr. Ron Reyes, and Dr. Luigi Segundo shared tips on how to keep our Dad’s hearts healthy. Of course, with the special participation of their guest, Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez who shared how he keeps his heart healthy and how to achieve an active and healthy lifestyle that is good for the heart.
