Dear Nhessie, You Survived - This Year, You Will Thrive

“And here you are, living despite it all.”

You have come so far. Your battlescars are slowly fading into the far corners of your heart. Your smile is slowly turning genuine. The anger, the bitterness are becoming some distant memory.

Let’s take a few steps back. Remember how you carried the burdens and struggles single-handedly when the world seemed to be against you?

Before the pandemic, you tried with all your might to deal with postpartum blues because you have 4 wonderful angels to take care of on your own. You had debts piled up left and right. Personal relationships that couldn’t be mended. So you had to burn some bridges just so it can light up your way.

Remember the many nights you cried yourself to sleep? You fell asleep asking yourself, is this a life worth living?  You tossed and turned feeling like the rollercoaster you’re on somewhat derailed and thrown you off mid-air without anything to hold on to. You tell yourself, “Forgive them, even if they aren’t sorry.”

Challenges of the Pandemic

And then the announcement. A lockdown that would mean one of the biggest adjustments that you ever had to deal with in your life. An unseen foe that had your maternal instincts on full alert just so you can protect the people you love.

My inspirations.

Yet, you had to fulfill your role in public service too. You had to go out and help in any way you can not because it was what your job entailed but because you wanted to save the world in your own little way. Your abilities were doubted and insulted and yet you forged on.

Amidst the pandemic, you had to fulfill your role.

The future was not certain. Some opportunities were lost that you wondered whether you’ll be able to sustain the needs of your brood. You had to find other ways to stay afloat. You even had to break the money box that you took months to fill just so you can provide for your kids.

You entered into ventures so you can provide for the little people relying on you. But like some undertaking, you risked only to fail. You had to accept defeat and promised yourself to keep going. Your time will come.

Heal and Shift

But then again, it’s true - You will never how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have. And at that moment that you thought you can’t go on anymore - you kept moving.

The reasons you had to keep being strong.

I saw how you stood up to dust yourself off and move forward. For every hard blow that the crisis dealt you, you looked at each one of the challenges straight in the eye and you fought with all that you had.

Armed with prayers and good intentions, you tried again. Tapping your entrepreneural skills so you can earn to buy the essentials for your kids. The hope in your heart that you thought was forever lost, was reignited. You have to move on.

The Comeback

After so many setbacks, you knew it’s the comeback that matters most. As what you always did in the past, you sold stuff online. You tapped your support system to help bear part of the weight you were carrying and they gladly rallied behind you, cheering you on.

With all your efforts came fervent prayers. This is how your soul found peace. You knew in your heart that it was up to you to pull yourself out of the rut you didn’t mean to be stuck in.

The beacon(s) that keep calling you home.

Your children. They are the beacon that is calling you home each time when you find yourself lost. They are the reason you are back in business- Why you are purposely trying to find your rightful place in the world.

Right now, you are sure you’re where you’re meant to be. You have survived months of heartbreak after heartbreak and though life isn’t all peachy yet, you’re certain that it will be beautiful.

You Will Thrive

As I write you this letter, I can feel all the frustrations, pent-up anger, doubts, and fears all floating away. I can feel love for yourself, love for your family and hope filling up your heart. You were the “you” that you needed all along.

This year, there’s a sureness in your heart that tells you, you will thrive. Though the pandemic isn’t over yet, you can see the sun peeking it’s head over the horizon and you know, it’s time.

You survived the last 2 years of hardships, dramas, heartaches, and rude awakenings. This year, you will thrive. You will finally be free from all that held you down.

You will be the best daughter, sister, friend, and mother that you ever hoped to be. Your love for your children will be your strength and guidance so you will never find yourself lost again.

This year, you will save - you will free yourself from financial burdens. This year, you will succeed in business - you will see the success of your ventures. This year, you will live life free from the opinions of others.

And if there’s one lesson that you will always carry with you, to remind you of all that you’ve surpassed - Life isn’t a game to be played, it isn’t a battle to be fought but instead, it is a journey to be enjoyed.

Remember, all that you ever hoped for will finally happen for you.
