Creatively Impaired

My attempt at Creative Flatlay |
Yes, that's how I see myself. I'd like to believe that being a writer means that I am blessed with all the perks of being a star in the creative department, but really, I am as clueless as the next person. I've been trying with all my might to present my
Instagram and
Facebook page with perfectly curated flatlays but still, they seem unattractive to me and so to me, if it fails my creatively impaired eyes, I guess my followers think so too.
Practice Makes Perfect

They say, there's no better way to hone your skills than to practice. But sometimes, you need an expert's advice and help in order to be able to finally achieve the results you are aiming for. I used to Google my way into getting flatlay ideas so when
Nuffnang Ph sent me an invitation to attend a workshop led by
Faber-Castell facilitated by Ms. Tippy Go of
Googly Gooeys - I all but pounced on the chance to attend the promising event. I figured this is my time to finally amp up my A-game when it comes to photography, design and blogging. So far, attending the event was one of the best decisions I ever made. I was able to learn some key points that will help me create better flatlays in the future. Let me share them with you.

Attractive Faber Castell Colored Pens |
5 Tips to improve your Instagram flatlay posts and go all-out creative to produce attractive photos on ALL your platforms:
|
Eye-candies! |
- Natural Lighting - same with the food we eat. Unfiltered and natural lighting is the best way to go when you want to present a good post. Nothing will ever beat Ms. Sunshine or Mr. Cloud whenever you feel that you want to present raw yet beautiful photos.
- Be adventurous with Colors - do not be afraid to mix n' match. Be bold, be light, mix them all just as long as you get the result you are looking form. Art is not meant to be tamed, so at the workshop, I learned to just go with the flow. I just followed what looked and felt right to me.
- It's ok to make a mess - yes, there will be times when the colors won't stay inside the lines, but there is nothing wrong with it. The angles may seem off to you but that's the thing - art doesn't really conform - it is how you feel a sense of freedom to design your own masterpiece.
- It can be a form of relaxation - or in my case, the perfect bonding activity with my 4 year-old boy. Whenever you try to figure out how to mix colors, what designs to come up with may seem daunting at first, but when painting with watercolors, each stroke, mixing and matching is a perfect way to ease your mind.
- You can never go wrong with using good-quality art materials. - this might be one of the best advice to heed when you want to learn color mixing and creative artwork. Art materials by Faber-Castell are not only pleasing to look at but perfect to use. They are affordable and are easy to clean and store.

My son Choi enjoyed it the way I did. |
Art is Cool
I used to be afraid to use watercolors, I was content to grab photos online and credit the owners but now, through the help of Faber Castell and Ms. Tippy - I feel more confident to use my own creations to post on my social media accounts. More than that, I have learned things that I can share with my son so when it's time for us to bond together over art, he will realize that art is cool after all!
